A/C Protection Pro Tips During Hurricanes & Storms

COOL DOWN YOUR HOME BEFORE THE STORM

Turn the thermostat down a few degrees lower than normal and close your blinds, curtains, windows, and doors. This will cool your home to a comfortable level before the storm arrives and will pay off should the power go out.

PROTECT YOUR OUTDOOR UNIT

Use a tarp or plywood to cover your outdoor compressor. Consider straps to prevent your unit from moving during the storm. Also remember to secure any furniture, pool accessories, or lawn ornaments and remove any debris that could be carried by winds and hit your unit.

TURN OFF ELECTRICITY TO YOUR A/C

As the storm’s intensity increases, consider unplugging the unit or turning off the unit before the electricity goes out. This will protect your unit’s internal components from power surges caused by lightning strikes or the electricity suddenly being turned back on. These surges can short out or burn internal electrical components, including the unit’s motor.

INSPECT UNIT BEFORE TURNING BACK ON

Flooding, winds, and power outages during a storm can damage your A/C unit.
